How did your mother and father wake you up in the morning?
Mom and Dad had very different styles for waking us up. I guess there was on similarity in that sometimes they each included singing in the wake-up routine. Mom would usually wake us up pretty gently. I think she flipped on the light and told us to get up, repeatedly for some of us. Sometimes she sang to us. The song she usually picked went something like: “Wake up, wake up, the sun is up. The dew is on the buttercups. Wake up, wake up, the sun is up. And you should be up too.”
Dad would flip on the light and quite loudly most times, tell us to get up. If we didn’t roll out of bed soon we might get threatened with ice or hear dad sing “Good Morning Merry Sunshine”. Anyone who knows my Dad might know that he is not the best of singers. Usually this would be enough to get us moving. If Dad had to get the ice, we could usually count on having it on us somehow. I think the most annoying was when he would hold it above our heads and let the little freezing cold drips land on our foreheads.
